Project Summary
Ourspot began as a company building projects and was funded by the Korean startup accelerator Bluepoint. The main goal of Ourspot is to address modern childcare challenges through technology. Over four months, I collaborated with investors, the CEO, engineers, and operations managers, guiding the service from concept to launch.
Reasons
Background
South Korea has the lowest fertility rate in the world
The country’s lowest fertility rate is projected to fall even further to 0.68 in 2024, far below the 2.1 the OECD says is necessary to ensure a broadly stable population. If Korea’s birth rate remains low, the country will face extinction.
Fertility Rate 0.68
means a woman delivers 0.68 births in her entire lifetime.

RESEARCH SUMMARY
Needs of a new model of
after school solution
The current childcare services fail to address the challenges of irregular schedules and high costs.
Families need a flexible after-school planning solution that accommodates diverse routines and reduces financial strain.
How technology can support this dynamic routines
and make it affordable?
Reseach
What makes it hard for people
to give birth?
I conducted user research, including in-depth interviews and shadowing daily schedules, and found that schools end hours before parents are free from their work. As a result, parents often have to enroll their kids in multiple after-school programs to fill the time gap.

Final Design
Check-In/Out Kiosk & Notification

Kiosk Device - Tablet
Children had difficulty scanning due to the camera hole at the top of the device.
Using the vertical version significantly increased successful scan attempts, leading to the final decision to proceed with the vertical layout.
Personal Notification - Mobile
To reduce development time and installation barriers, individual entry/exit notifications and daily activity summary links were sent via mobile messenger.
Also, visit history can be viewed on individual pages.
