PROJECT CONTEXT

Arising Social Issue in Growing Children

In a time when both parents' incomes are stretched thin to support a child, the resulting stress and fears contribute to the lowest birth rate era.

Financial Burden

Feeling fatigued by the monthly cost of raising children.

Time Poverty

Average leisure time per a day by household composition

How might we create a convenient
and secure childcare solution
that supports families?

DEFINE THE PROBLEM

Conducted User Survey and Interview

After-School activity is necessary until parents get off work

"Schools finish early, between 1-3 PM, long before most parents get off work, making after-school activities essential."

Kim, Journalist, 38, Mom of a girl_Jou

Are you enrolling after-school activites to provide care until finishing work?

Coordinating after-school activities is a significant source of stress

"Finding activities that match my child’s interests, align with our travel routes, and fit into our schedules is overwhelming."

Lee, Marketer, 42, Mom of 2 boys

How many after-school activities are children aged 3-9 enrolled in?

Dual Challenge for After-School Logitistics

"Even after signing up, managing pickups and getting them home is another challenge, often requiring extra help, which doubles the cost."

Shin, Engineer, 36, Mom of a boy

How do children travel to their after-school activities?

Shadowed Children’s Commute

It’s not a streamline, there are frequent care gaps

Sudden changes, such as vacations, time off, or illness, disrupt tightly scheduled after-school routines, causing frequent care gaps.

RESEARCH SUMMARY

Current Childcare Model Challenges

USABILITY TESTING

Improving User Interation

Kiosk for Children

Issue

Difficulty in focusing on text instructions.

For younger user, the scan area was too small and high

Iteration

Implement animated icons and sound effects for clearer guidance.

Enlarge the scan area.

Notification for Parents

Issue

Strong preference for seeing pictures of their children in the space.

Wanted to access previous history.

Iteration

Add photo carousel section.

Created a dashboard for repeat users to view their history of previous visits.

FINAL DESIGN

The Space Operation System

Kiosk Device - Tablet

Children had difficulty scanning due to the camera hole at the top of the device.
Using the vertical version significantly increased successful scan attempts, leading to the final decision to proceed with the vertical layout.

Personal Notification - Mobile

To reduce development time and installation barriers, individual entry/exit notifications and daily activity summary links were sent via mobile messenger.
Also, visit history can be viewed on individual pages.

FINAL DESIGN

Self Scanning Kiosk Interaction

Activity Archiving Kiosk for Children

Animated Icon for Visual Guide

FINAL DESIGN

Real-Time Notification Interaction

Messenger to Individual Page for Parents
